The Sorrowful Mysteries

-I-

The Agony of Our Lord in the Garden of Olives
In the first sorrowful mystery we contemplate how Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed to His heavenly Father requesting the chalice of His passion to be taken away, nevertheless conforming Himself to the will of the Father and not His own. Entering into agony, His sweat became drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.
Let us beseech Mary, seat of wisdom, to grant us the virtue of seriousness so that we will courageously embrace every suffering that comes our way.
Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus...

The Scourging of Our Lord at the Pillar

In the second sorroful mystery we contemplate how Our Lord Jesus Christ was mercilessly flagellated at the order of Pilate, in spite of having been found completely innocent by the latter.
Let us beseech Mary, Virgin most prudent, to grant us the certain conviction that all the persecutions of the impious against the good are unjustified, and the grace to unceasingly and intransigently fight the good fight.
Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus...

The Crowning of Our Lord with Thorns
In the third sorrowful mystery we contemplate how Our Lord Jesus Christ was crowned with thorn in the praetorium of Pilate and mocked by the soldiers of the Roman governor.
Let us beseech Mary, Virgin most venerable, to obtain for us the invincible strength, the unshakeable serenity and at least a drop of the infinite dignity with which Jesus Christ confronted the ridicule and torments at this hour of His passion.
Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus...

The Carrying of the Cross
In the fourth sorrowful mystery we contemplate how Our Lord Jesus Christ, being condemned to death by Pilate, carried the Cross with great determination and patience, unto the height of Mount Calvary.
Let us beseech Mary Most Holy, Virgin most faithful, so that in following the example of her Divine Son, we may never vacillate when carrying the cross that entails the complete observance of the laws of God and the Church.
Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus...

The Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ
In the fifth sorrowful mystery we contemplate how Our Lord Jesus Christ was stripped of His garments, nailed to the Cross between two thieves and gave up His spirit in the presence of His Most Holy Mother, a few faithful followers, and enemies that would not cease to insult Him.
Let us beseech the Virgin Mother, whose heart was pierced with a sword of sorrow, to obtain for us the grace to make of our life a holocaust by taking the vocation that God designed to give us from all eternity to its final consequences.

Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus...
