Joyful Mysteries
-I- The Annunciation In the first joyful mystery we contemplate how the Blessed Virgin Mary was greeted by the Arch-angel Gabriel, who announced that she was to conceive and give birth to Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Let us beseech Mary, Virgin of virgins, by the ineffable joy that filled her Immaculate Heart at the Annunciation, to eliminate from our souls all that separates us from her, such as hurful sadness, moral discouragement and unfounded suspicions. Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus... |
-II- The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Elizabeth In the second joyful mystery we contemplate how the Blessed Virgin Mary visited her cousin Saint Elizabeth, and how Saint John the Baptist upon hearing the voice of the Mother of God leapt for joy in the womb of his mother. Let us beseech Mary , cause of our joy, to communicate with our souls in such a way as to make us overflow with enthusiasm upon receiving her invitation to a life of greater dedication in the service of God and the Catholic Church. Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus... |
-III- The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ In the third joyful mystery we contemplate how the Blessed Virgin Mary gave birth to her Divine Son Jesus Christ, and laid Him in the manger of a stable in Bethlehem because there was no room for them in the inn. Let us beseech Mary, Mother of divine grace, to grant us the zeal, the serenity and the strength that emanate from the sacred mystery of Christmas. Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus... |
-IV- The Presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple In the fourth joyful mystery we contemplate how the Blessed Virgin Mary, having completed the time of purification, presented her Divine Son in the Temple. There she meets the old Simeon, who taking the Child in his arms, prophesied that the Child had come into the world as a sign of contradiction and that a sword would pierce the soul of His Mother. Let us beseech Mary, mirror of justice, to grant us a soul all aflame so that following the example of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we may become a sign of contradiction uniting the good and confounding evil-doers. Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus... . |
-V- The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple In the fifth joyful mystery we contemplate how the Blessed Virgin Mary lost her Divine Son, who without telling her or St. Joseph, had stayed behind in Jerusalem. After a wearisome search of three days she found Him in the Temple listening to the Doctors of the Law and asking them questions. Let us beseech Mary, comforter of the afflicted, to grant us fidelity, confidence and strength amidst the many perplexities we encounter. Our Father, Hail Mary (ten times), Glory be to the Father, O my Jesus... |
